Owen's Birth Story :)

So it has been almost 3 weeks since my boy arrived but I thought I would share his birth story!  I took guesses from close family and friends as to what day they thought Owen would make his grand entrance into the world, I wrote them down on a calendar, and watched as many of them were passed up. My guess was May 15, and I was SO close!! On May 15th at about 11:20PM my water broke! It is so funny because the entire week before that I thought I might be leaking, but my doctor kept reassuring me that If my water broke it would feel like a "gush"... and boy did it ever gush!!! ahahahahhaha!! It was so exciting! I thought I was peeing my pants, but knew that I wasn't, so I knew it was my water. We were just about to go to sleep when it happened! I announced it to Jeff, he flew out of bed, turned on the light and as I went to get cleaned up a bit, he got the hospital bags in the car, car started and ready to go! We were SO ready, and so prepared! I'm so glad I am a planner it really paid off!

Jeff wanted to drive like nascar, but I assured him I was not in any pain and that we could drive safely to the hospital and that we did not need a police escort! :) He did run one red light turning into the hospital, just for fun! There were almost zero cars on the road! We called Lexy, who was coach #2 and she was on her way to meet us at Rancho! We went through the ER since L&D closes at 11... Luckily I preregistered (go me!) and it only took a few minutes to get all checked in before the wheeled me on up! Once I got settled into my room and all changed into my lovely hospital gown I started to feel some contractions. They weren't too bad a first and I went about 3 hours feeling them before I decided to get my epidural. I was 4cm dilated and ready to get some rest before  the big PUSH! I must say I have never been poked and prodded so much! I got blood drawn, an IV, an epidural, a catheter, and checked quite often! Ill tell ya, once you have a baby you pretty much have no shame, seems like the entire hospital saw my goods.... Once I had the epidural I was able to relax! I was so NOT drugged up in any way shape or form. I never lost feeling in my legs and was completely "there" for Owen's arrival. I actually never really took a good nap, I was so intensely listening to Owen's heart beating that I didn't really fall asleep. I did rest though.

I think the nurses were very surprised at how quickly I progressed I went from 4cm to 7-8cm in two hours, then from there to 9.5cm in another hour. I was 10cm and +1 after 45 minutes. I told my nurse I felt the urge to push, and she said I could as long as I wasn't pushing my hardest. So I did :) The nurse said not to get too excited because it would take 2-3 hours for O to crown and the real pushing to begin. another 45 minutes later, she took a look down south and said STOP PUSHING and call the doctor. This is when I spent 15-20 minutes not pushing so I could wait for Dr. Anderson, who works across the street to get in there to deliver my baby. This was the WORST pain of my entire life! It would have felt so much better to just push him on out, but the NOT pushing and blowing out instead hurt the worst! It was so hilarious, I will give myself total props, I did awesome with breathing, focusing and pushing really well. I said one bad word, and apologised to the nurses after it left my lips, hahahahahah! After about 20 minutes of not pushing, the nurse was looking away and when she looked back Owen's head had come out and without me pushing, just my body naturally pushing him out, his body came shooting out like a cannon!!! It was the biggest relief of my LIFE!!! after the nurse delivered him, Dr. A came waltzing in to deliver the placenta (which we saved)... JUST KIDDING!

The birth of our son was absolutely amazing! It was an incredible experience to have with Jeff. He was an awesome coach, so supportive and encouraging. and my sister Lexy did awesome too! She counted all of my pushes and was a huge help! I am so glad that I only had the two of them in the room, it was so special! Hearing Owen's first cries, was the one of the most beautiful moments of my whole life. seeing my precious boy and holding him, looking into his sweet eyes as he looked back at me was seriously indescribable.  Jeff and I were beyond blessed, ecstatic, happy, and overwhelmed! I got to have a golden hour of bonding time with Owen skin to skin, where we got to meet each other finally, and he got to nurse, it was so so special!  After our family time of just me Jeff and Owen, we were moved to our post partum room, where we were visited by tons of family and friends! I was thinking I was glad we were having him here in CA so that our family didn't have to miss out on his birth, it was really special!

So Owen was born May 16 at 11:05AM and he was 7lbs 12oz and was 20 1/4 inches long! He is absolutely perfect! We were able to go home Tuesday at 5PM I was really glad I didn't have to stay a full 2 days, it was nice to be in our own space. I will say, my friend Joy gave me really good advice about a month before Owen was born. She told me to pray for my nurses and my entire experience in the hospital. After she told me that I started praying for just that, and I will say that I had wonderful L&D nurses, I couldn't have asked for better nurses, and my overall stay at the hospital was so good!  In total I was in labor for 12 hours! not too shabby for my first baby! I am hoping the next few just shoot out!

We have been doing well! Owen went to the Doctor 2 days after he was born and weighed 7lb 6oz, which is normal for babies to loose weight. He went back again a week later and weighed 8lb 4oz, and went to get his circ, a few days after that and weighed 8lb 14oz! I am thinking he is just about 9 pounds now! he totally looks chunkier!!! He is doing great! Eating like a champ, poopin and sleepin! He has been more alert for a few hours of the day as we round his third week of life! He has been out and about with us and does really well!

I am doing good too! Getting used to life with less sleep, but overall getting the hang of being a new mommy! Being a mom is incredible, It is amazing to spend every day with my little guy and watch him grow. I love that when other people are holding him, he looks towards my voice, that when he is fussy and crying I can calm him and that his favorite place to sleep is right on my chest! it is absolutely amazing!

Jeff is an incredible father. I was so amazed and how it all is coming so naturally to him. I love watching him just stare at our son, and I can see how much he loves him. Owen loves his daddy! besides giving him milk, Jeff can soothe and calm Owen just as well as I can. He sleeps for hours on daddy's chest and is so content! Jeff is a master at the car seat, and I wish he was always around to load him in! I just love watching how God is changing us. shaping us into the parents that created us to be!

We have been so blessed by our friends at Lamb's we got meals every other night for 2 weeks! it was so awesome to not have to worry about cooking and just to relax and enjoy so yummy grub! Pastor Gary and Marty came one night and gave us the best advice. Two things. One, to never wish for the next thing when it comes to Owen, to enjoy the stages that he is in as he is in them, even if it means sleepless nights! and Two. to know that God chose us to be Owens parents and to not let anyone make us feel like we have to parent him a different way. God chose us because He knew we would be the best parents for Owen! I loved that!

who says newborns dont smile!!!!

We are getting ready to spend some time with my family from TX who will be here tomorrow! Life is good and my cup in overflowing! <3
